I first started thinking about what defined my music taste when my geology teachers stated how even growing up, he has always loved the sound of an electric guitar, and would usually be able to block out the other sounds in a song just to listen to that sweet guitar riff. It made me think about how I’ve always loved music, but one instrument never defined my entire music taste. Sure, I love myself some acoustic guitar(the reason I started learning to play it), or the french horn, or even the steel drums, but if a song didn’t have any of these variables, it was never a deal breaker for me. So, I started soul searching for what truly defined my music taste.

I thought for the longest time it was anything that had energy behind it, but I ended crossing that off the list because I often listened to pretty slow songs, if the mood struck me. I then moved on to thinking it was music that had soul, but the definition of soul is subjective, so I didn’t think that was a good enough of a descriptor. I had even thought my music taste was based off the lyrical value, but this was quickly crossed out due to the fact that I listen to a variety of video game, movie, and anime soundtracks, plus some classical music that used to play on Little Einsteins. I finally decided on defining my music taste by how it blends. By this I mean I like how a saxophone and a good ol piano may go really well together in one song, while in another song it may only be playing the acoustic guitar, but the vocals and lyrics may be good enough that the simple instrument usage works very well.
