For my Gold Award – the highest award I can earn as a Girl Scout – the first idea that came to me was for sensory kits in emergency vehicles like firetrucks and ambulances. The sensory kits would be there to help people with sensory processing disorders(SPD) in emergency situations. The idea has evolved to include training programs for emergency personnel to properly care for people with sensory processing disorders (SPD) in emergency situations. I would like to implement this for the entire state of Michigan, although I am initially focusing on my tri-county area.

At this current time I have been doing a recycling program with support of my local community. This has helped me earn enough funds for select emergency services in my tri-county area. However, I would like to help as many people with SPD as possible. Over the past few months I have worked with an EMS Instructor Coordinator on how to format the training program. I have also worked with trained professionals in autism centers on what to include in the training and also what items to include in the sensory kits. The kits will include a variety of different items that include sensory distractions such as noise cancelling headphones, sun glasses, stress balls, and a variety of other objects.

I will be finishing this project before this spring. While I can finish this for a few select emergency services I sincerely hope I can expand this to include the entire state to help as many people as possible.

As I’m not allowed to do a go fund me style fund raiser, but I can sell things I myself have made, I am selling artwork I have made as NFTs. Each is unique and they are on sale now.
